American Institutes for Research (AIR) Partners with Tuva, Bringing Interactive Data Analysis to Student Assessments
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is partnering with Tuva to expand the capacity of AIR assessments to measure student skill analyzing and interpreting data in realistic, meaningful contexts.
NEW YORK, NY (June 1, 2018) – The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is partnering with Tuva to expand the capacity of AIR Assessments to measure student skill analyzing and interpreting data in realistic, meaningful contexts. Early applications will involve next-generation science and mathematics assessments in which students use Tuva’s interactive analysis tools to solve real-world problems.
AIR will integrate and use Tuva’s powerful, easy-to-use data, graphing and modeling tools to develop items that measure students’ ability to explore, analyze, visualize and interpret data in real-life contexts.
"Now that online testing is the norm, technology allows us to better measure deeper understanding and skills," said Jon Cohen, President of AIR Assessment. "These new tests will challenge students to apply what they know to address meaningful, authentic questions. The Tuva tools will help us test what students can do, not just what they know."

As part of this partnership, Tuva will continue to develop their popular data, graphing and statistical tools and make them fully accessible and compliant with the latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, making them accessible and usable for students with learning disabilities. The company will continue to partner with teachers, schools and districts across the country to integrate and bring its supplemental instructional platform into science, math and other classrooms.
"We are excited for our partnership with AIR to develop next-generation assessment tasks," said Harshil Parikh, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tuva. "AIR is one of the leading educational assessment and research organizations in the country, and we are looking forward to working with them to bring Tuva-powered tasks into their various state assessment programs for years to come."
AIR will begin piloting Tuva-powered items and tasks among their state assessment programs this year.
