Tuva Partners with OpenSciEd to Strengthen Data Sensemaking
Launch of The Tuva OpenSciEd Companion brings interactive data tools into OpenSciEd instruction
New York, NY — June 9, 2026 — Tuva and OpenSciEd today announced a major expansion of their long-standing collaboration with the release of the Tuva OpenSciEd Companion, a certified supplementary product built to support data-rich portions of the OpenSciEd curriculum through interactive tools and lesson-aligned resources. Optimized for seamless integration, the companion is intended to be used alongside existing OpenSciEd materials rather than as a standalone curriculum.
After initially partnering in 2021 to bring a selection of datasets into OpenSciEd’s middle school courses, this new milestone marks a significant evolution in the organizations’ shared relationship. The collaboration reflects a deep commitment to the belief that meaningful science learning happens when students investigate real phenomena and make sense of evidence for themselves. OpenSciEd provides an inquiry-based instructional framework grounded in three-dimensional science learning and centered on student-driven exploration; Tuva extends that experience by enabling students to interact with scientific data through dynamic visualization and analysis tools.
Through this partnership, educators gain access to turnkey integrated lesson experiences within Tuva that map directly to OpenSciEd instructional sequences. On the platform, students can follow investigation procedures, collect and organize data, and use interactive visualization tools to analyze evidence as part of the broader classroom sensemaking process. By shifting these activities to a digital environment, the companion eliminates administrative burden, leaving teachers with far less paper to copy and shuffle during prep.
“The Tuva OpenSciEd Companion directly addresses time-intensive demands of NGSS Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs), specifically Analyzing and Interpreting Data and Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking. This shifts the classroom focus from data construction to authentic data literacy. By removing technical barriers to entry, the companion accelerates the transition from raw observations to evidence-based claims, reclaiming days of instructional time and allowing students to focus on the core NGSS goal: collaborative, data-driven student sensemaking,” said Jim Ryan, Executive Director of OpenSciEd.
“Teachers are under immense pressure to cover deep scientific concepts, but too often, valuable class periods are swallowed up by tedious graph setup or spreadsheet troubleshooting,” said Harshil Parikh, CEO and Co-Founder of Tuva. “Our companion product acts as a force multiplier for educators. By taking the friction out of data manipulation, we give teachers their instructional time back, allowing them to focus on what they do best: facilitating breakthroughs in student understanding.”
The Tuva OpenSciEd Companion is designed to remove implementation barriers and meet every classroom exactly where it is. It is truly universal and can be deployed anywhere OpenSciEd is used. Tuva ensures the data experience remains uncompromised. To support diverse student populations, the companion pairs cross-platform device compatibility, robust multilingual support, and WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance with an affordable price point, honoring the true spirit of OpenSciEd by ensuring high-quality science tools remain accessible to all districts.
The Tuva OpenSciEd Companion is now available for middle school science and high school biology educators implementing OpenSciEd instructional materials. For more information, visit ose.tuvalabs.com. To set up a demo or inquire about a subscription, email hello@tuvalabs.com.
