They will generate their own ideas for how they can teach a future lesson or unit through the lens of data, while meeting curriculum standards. ;;br;;br ##### Audience: Middle School Math Teachers | Secondary Math Coaches ;;br;;br ##### Workshop Summary: Throughout middle school students develop the critical math skills that will allow them to access higher level math, and deepen their statistical and data reasoning. Among the core concepts of middle school are variability, measures of center, patterns of association, and the beginning of linear modeling - all of which can be enhanced by the use of authentic, real-world data. Tuva’s tools and pedagogy are uniquely designed to help students master these challenging core concepts through interacting with datasets, analyzing and interpreting data, and using data to tell a story. In this workshop, teachers will identify concepts within their core curriculum where the use of real-world data can lend to greater authenticity and deeper student learning. They will explore Tuva’s lessons aligned to Middle School Math standards and concepts, as well as the pedagogy used to support student learning. There will be time built in the workshop for teachers to collaborate in the development of a plan for using real-world data and Tuva in future lessons / units.
