They will generate their own ideas for how they can teach a future lesson or unit through the lens of data, while meeting curriculum standards. ;;br ;;br ##### Audience: Grades 8 - 12 | Algebra 1 Teachers, Secondary Math Coaches ;;br ##### Workshop Summary: Algebra 1 forms the basis of higher-level math, and requires students to think abstractly about numbers and variables. Yet, it is often taught without real-world context, leaving students to wonder “when am I ever going to use this?” We believe that teaching conceptually challenging Algebra concepts using authentic, real-world data can deepen students’ interest in and understanding of Algebra 1. In this workshop, teachers will identify concepts within their core Algebra curriculum where the use of real-world data can lend to greater authenticity and deeper student learning. They will explore Tuva’s lessons aligned to Algebra 1 standards and concepts, as well as the pedagogy used to support student learning. There will be time built in the workshop for teachers to collaborate in the development of a plan for using real-world data and Tuva in future lessons / units.
