Through hands-on activities and discussions we will explore ways to improve our students’ CER skills specifically when using data in authentic contexts. We will consider different ways to approach the framework chronologically as well as prompts to help students identify their CERs. Also, we will explore some common struggles and tripping points for students when applying their understanding of CER to data, as opposed to prose. Whether you are relatively new to building CERs with data or a veteran, come join us as we explore and discuss key aspects of helping our students build their skills to critically think through data to make well supported claims, a critical aspect of data literacy. ##### Workshop Objectives: Following the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 1. Identify how CER is different with data than prose. 2. Leverage data and Tuva to help students develop better CERs. ;;br ##### Workshop Format: Through hands-on activities and reflective discussions we will interactively explore various datasets within Tuva as common learning experiences together for our discussions around the core topics: graph choice, describing data, and interpreting patterns. Additionally, we will build off of our own experiences in the classroom to share lessons learned and brainstorm alternative options around helping our students with the core topics. Finally, we will begin to plan our own implementation of next steps building from the workshop. ##### Workshop Materials: * [Instructional Strategy: Claim-Evidence-Reasoning](https://support.tuvalabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002809233-Instructional-Strategy-Claim-Evidence-Reasoning) ;;br;;br ##### How to Bring This Professional Learning Session to Your School or District: To arrange a workshop for a group of educators from your school or district, reach out to hello@tuvalabs.com.
