Through hands-on activities and discussions we will refresh our skills in graphing and describing properties of groups, interpreting variability, deciding what kind of graph to use for different kinds of analyses, and interpreting patterns that are often found in data. We will consider ways to explore our data through the graph types we use (e.g., dot plots, box plots, histograms, line plots, scatterplots, bar charts, pie charts) and the calculations we make and the ways we describe the data (e.g., distribution, range, center, shape). Whether you are relatively new to teaching with data or a veteran, come join us as we explore and discuss key aspects of helping our students analyze and interpret data. ##### Workshop Objectives: Following the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 1. Articulate key aspects of data literacy. 2. Ask statistical questions of data. 3. Review common kinds of data analysis and visualizations. 4. Articulate how and why to visualize distributions and variability in data. 5. Explore how to leverage real-world data and Tuva to practice fundamental concepts when working with data. ;;br ##### Workshop Format: Through hands-on activities and reflective discussions we will interactively explore various datasets within Tuva as common learning experiences together for our discussions around the core topics: graph choice, describing data, and interpreting patterns. Additionally, we will build off of our own experiences in the classroom to share lessons learned and brainstorm alternative options around helping our students with the core topics. Finally, we will begin to plan our own implementation of next steps building from the workshop. ;;br;;br ##### How to Bring This Professional Learning Session to Your School or District: To arrange a workshop for a group of educators from your school or district, reach out to hello@tuvalabs.com. All Tuva microcredentials are available through school or district enrollment only. Individual registration is not available at this time.
