Natural Hazards
Assessment
Data from four natural hazards are explored using maps and graphs to rank locations based on risk. This assessment requires students to use data to identify patterns for making predictions about future natural hazard risk for ten cities plus their own community. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): 1. Analyze and interpret data on natural hazards to rank locations, including students' own community, by risk based on past frequency and severity.
Introduction to Phenomena Every January, US cities get ranked by everything from the most dog-friendly to the best hamburgers. Another way cities are ranked is by how at-risk they are from natural hazards. The image to the left shows the 2022 weather disasters that each cost over a billion dollars in damages.
