Weather Activity (STEMscopes TN 3.ESS2.3 and 2.4, Explore 3)
Task
##Teacher Background Where This Resource Fits Within STEMscopes TN Use this resource with STEMscopes TN Scope 3.ESS2.3 and 2.4 Weather and Climate during the Explore phase. During Explore 3: Activity - Weather, students are asked to collect weather data for five days, record it in a table, and then use it to make multiple graphs. Instead of entering the data on the STEMscopes handout, have the students input the data on Tuva. How Tuva Enhances the Lesson We save the data digitally, so students cannot lose track of their data sheet. Tuva makes the graphing process both more efficient and more interactive. In the investigation in STEMscopes, students create four graphs by hand. This would a time-consuming process, and would cause frustration for students students with fine motor control challenges. Using Tuva's accessible, drag-and-drop graphing tools, students quickly create graphs and revise them with just a few clicks. Instead of spending time laboriously graphing, students spend time building critical data literacy skills, such as reading bar graphs, identifying the type of data they are working with, and noticing patterns.
Meteorologists are scientists who study weather. They make graphs of their data. Then, they share the graphs with the public. The graphs help other people learn about the weather. Over the next few days, you will be collecting data about weather too. You'll keep track of the data here. Then, you'll make graphs of it.
