Trend Seekers: Metals vs. Non-metals (Full Lesson)
Task
In this task, students begin to explore trends in the Periodic Table. They pull evidence from a dot plot and a box plot to support or refute claims about non-metals, metals and semi-metals and why elements are placed into these categories on the Periodic Table. Then, they practice using qualifiers (always, never, often) and adding numerical evidence to make claims more precise and nuanced.
Welcome to this Tuva lesson! When the Periodic Table was first created, scientists used the elements’ properties to categorize them and determine their positions on the table. One of the categories they used was metals vs. non-metals. Metals shared certain properties in common, while non-metals shared others. In this lesson you’ll use evidence to support or refute claims about the properties of metals, semi-metals, and non-metals *Click Next to begin!
