Where This Resource Fits Within STEMscopes TN Use this resource with STEMscopes TN Scope 7.PS1.4 Forces and Patterns during the Explore phase. During Explore 2: Scientific Investigation - Closing in on Reactions, students are asked to design an experiment, collect data, record it in a table, and graph it. Instead of entering the data on the STEMscopes handout, have the students input the data on Tuva. How Tuva Enhances the Lesson In Tuva, the data entry process is simplified. In step 8 of the investigation, students are asked to input data into a series of tables. We have organized the table so that all data can be entered into a single table. We save the data digitally, so students cannot lose track of their data sheet. Tuva makes the graphing process both more efficient and more interactive. In step 9 of the investigation in STEMscopes, students create a graph by hand, which can be a time-consuming and frustrating process. Using Tuva's acccessible, drag-and-drop graphing tools, students quickly create graphs and revise them with just a few clicks. Because the Tuva Tools make data visualization so efficient, students have time to explore their data using a variety of different graph types. They build a deeper understanding of the data, which helps them deepen their analysis. When students only have two data points, they may make errors during the experiment and get results that do not help them understand the science concept. Pooling the class data (optional) makes it easier to achieve a larger, more reliable sample size and gives students practice interacting with more robust datasets.
Use this resource with STEMscopes TN scope 7.PS1.4 Forces and Patterns during Explore 2: Scientific Investigation - Closing in on Reactions. When you get to steps 8 and 9, instead of recording your data and making your graph on your handout, enter your data in Tuva and use the Tuva Tools to create graphs. Click Next to get started.
