Activity - Patterns in One Direction (STEMscopes TN 5.PS2.4, Explore 2)
Task
##Teacher Background Where This Resource Fits Within STEMscopes TN Use this resource with STEMscopes TN Scope 5.PS2.4 Forces and Patterns during the Explore phase. During Explore 2: Activity - Patterns in One Direction, students are asked to collect data, record it in a table, and graph it. Instead of entering the data on the STEMscopes handout, have the students input the data on Tuva. How Tuva Enhances the Lesson We save the data digitally, so students cannot lose track of their data sheet. STEMscopes instructs students to "use your data to make a graph." Tuva scaffolds the graph creation process, prompting students to consider what variable would go on what axis and giving them immediate feedback. In this STEMscopes activity, students create a graph by hand. In Tuva, they use digital drag-and-drop tools to create the graph. This frees up time and shifts the emphasis onto making sense of the data using the graph as a tool.
Graphs help scientists spot patterns in their data. In this activity, you'll be collecting data about the motion of a block. You'll record your data in Tuva. Then, you'll use Tuva to make graphs and look for patterns. Click Next to continue.
