Heat It Up: Do All Materials Heat Up at the Same Rate?
Sim Lesson
Students use the Heat It Up simulation to heat different materials with the same hot plate and compare how quickly each one's temperature rises. Lesson Purpose Students often assume the same heat always causes the same temperature change. Comparing materials shows that the type of material (and its mass) changes how fast the temperature climbs.
If you put a metal spoon and a cup of water on the same stove, do they warm up at the same speed? How much a material's temperature climbs depends on more than just the heat you add. In this lesson, you will use the Heat It Up simulation to heat different materials and compare how fast their temperatures rise.
