Crash Test: Does a Faster Car Hit Harder?
Sim Lesson
Students use the Crash Test simulation to run the same crash test at different speeds, then use the Tuva Data Tools to graph a crash result against speed. They discover that a faster car carries more energy, shown by more crumple, louder sound, and other bigger effects. Lesson Purpose Speed is the only thing that changes. By logging runs at several speeds and graphing the results, students build the evidence-based idea that a faster-moving object carries more energy.
A crash test lab drives the same car into a wall again and again. The testers only change one thing: how fast the car goes. Fast cars do more damage. But how much more? In this lesson, you will crash the car at different speeds. You will collect data on how much the front of the car crumples. Then you will use a graph to see what happens when the car goes faster.
