Lesson 2.3: Compare Groups
Lesson
Introduction ![]530 The previous lesson reviewed how to show and describe variability in the duration of tropical storms using a *dot plot*. This lesson reviews two other useful frequency plots: box and whisker plots (often just called “box plots”) and histograms. It also demonstrates how looking at *variability* in data provides a basis for reasoning about data as evidence. Key Concepts for Students: Show variability in a group using box plots and histograms. Compare two distributions (ie. one numeric and one categorical attribute) and decide if they are the same or different Use variability to evaluate certainty in a prediction or claim Key Words: Bar Graph, Bin, Box and Whisker Plot (Box Plot), Frequency Plot, Histogram, Interquartile Range, Range, Median, Quartile, Variability
Topics and standards: Comparing Groups, Box Plots
