Lesson 1.2: Data Literacy & Science Standards
Lesson
Introduction Data are what we use in science to learn and discover new things about the world. In our science classrooms we can use data to explore what scientists have previously learned about the world, to teach the process of science discovery, and for students to do science themselves. But students cannot engage proficiently in three dimensional science without learning to work with data. Lesson 1.2 is formatted as a set of three slide decks. It gives specific examples of how data plays a role in the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices. The lesson provides some examples of how Tuva datasets can support phenomenon-based learning, and it reviews of how data can be leveraged to teach the different NGSS Crosscutting Concepts.
