Histograms–I
Lesson
Introduction: In the previous lesson, you learned about dot plots. You saw that you can use dot plots to study the association between two categorical attributes. You also learned to use dot plots of quantitative attributes to describe distributions and to identify what is typical for the group. Further, you can use dot plots to compare groups when you place a categorical attribute on the other axis. In this lesson, you will learn about histograms and how to use them. You will also learn how a histogram is different from a bar graph (even though they look similar!) Histograms, like dot plots, show how values are distributed along a number line, that is, they show how frequently values occur in the dataset. ![Heights of Students]320 Tuva histograms group data into “bins” such as 1–5, 6–10, etc. Histograms show how many cases fall into in each bin. In Tuva, the bins are of equal size. In this lesson, you will: Distinguish between bar graphs, dot plots, and histograms Graph distributions using histograms Read histograms
