Table View vs. Case Card (v2)
Lesson
Learning to store and organize data in a variety of ways is a critical skill. You will learn about different data organization structures in Tuva which are simple to understand and are interconnected. The most basic structure is the CASE CARD that provides a case by case dynamic view of the dataset. The virtual CASE CARD is similar to cards stacked in a deck, much like the Basketball players' stats cards. ![Tuva Case Card compared to a Basketball Player's Stats Card]720:l Each Case Card in this virtual stack summarizes all the attributes of an individual or a case. As you gain confidence with reading data organized in CASE CARDs, you will begin to: Identify a case and its attributes Distinguish an attribute from its values This will help you in reading and processing more complex data organization structures such as Tabular data. The Tuva TABLE VIEW is a dynamic representation of tabular data where each row represents a case and each column represents an attribute. ![Tuva Table View]720:l Another important feature of the CASE CARD, the TABLE VIEW, and the graphing area is their interconnectivity. Selecting an individual data point on the graph will display automatically the Case Card associated with that particular data point. You will notice that the row containing the data for that particular case also gets highlighted in the TABLE VIEW. Similarly, selecting a case in the Case Card will select the associated data point for that case in the graphing area and the row in the TABLE VIEW. ![Exploring Data with Different Data Organization Structures: Table View, Case Card, and Graphing Area]720:l Thus, you can see how the three views represent the same dataset. In this tutorial, you will work with the Census at School dataset to familiarize yourself with the different ways data is organized on Tuva--the Table View, the Case Card and the Graphing Area. You will also learn to sort data values, apply the legend and select the attribute type.
Table View vs Case Card Learning to store and organize data in different ways is a critical skill for working with real datasets. Tuva uses simple, connected data structures that help you move smoothly from individual cases to overall patterns. On Tuva, the Case Card, Table View, and Graphing Area all represent the same dataset in different forms. Understanding how these views work together helps you identify cases, recognize attributes and values, and prepare for working with more complex data structures. [---cta ⚡ Ready to practice?
