Data Story - Adaptation to Environmental Change
Lesson
Background Animals that are well adapted to their environment breed successfully and pass along favorable traits to their young. But what if the environment changes quickly, such as a warming climate, or a drought lasting for several years? How quickly can traits found in a population change in response to a changed environment? ![]530 The graph is from the Tuva dataset Galapagos Finch Characteristics. These are measurements of beak depth collected by Peter and Rosemary Grant in their study of finches living in the Galapagos Islands. They measured finch traits on one island (Daphne Major) in 1976 and again in 1978, after a drought.
