Bar Chart of Values
Lesson
There is yet another type of bar graph in which the bars represent the value of an individual case. Such bar graphs help you make comparisons within a small group. Creating a bar graph of values is a simple process on Tuva. Step 1: Drag and drop a quantitative attribute on either of the x-and y-axes. ![]700 Step 2: From the toolbar, click on :ti[bar-chart-of-values] in the toolbar. ![]700 Step 3: Once you've chosen :ti[bar-chart-of-values], your graph will look like this: ![]700 Notice that the taller the dinosaur, the taller the bar representing it. Thus, the height of the bars is proportional to the magnitude of the value. Sorting the Bars in the Graph: However, it is not easy to identify the shortest dinosaur by eye. It is also difficult to compare lengths which are very close. To address this, the tool allows the user to sort the bars by a given attribute. You can sort the value bars in two ways. Method 1: Click on the quantitative attribute you have graphed or drag and drop it in the Legend Area. The attribute will get applied to the Legend and the value bars in the graph will get sorted. ![]700 Method 2: Step 1: Open the :ti[settings] from the toolbar and open the Order by drop-down menu. ![]700 Step 2: Select the attribute you graphed. The value bars will get ordered or sorted. ![]700 In the interactive tutorial that follows, you will learn to create your own Bar Charts of Values. You will also learn to group the bars in categories and explore associations between two quantitative attributes. Click on Next to get started!
