What Do Ice Cores Say?
Data Story
Describe and interpret patterns in a graph of long term temperature change based on data from an Antarctic ice core.
Welcome to this Tuva data story! Polar scientists learn a lot about Earth’s past climate by looking at the composition of tiny bubbles frozen inside ice cores drilled and extracted from Earth’s polar ice caps. They measure concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, and different isotopes of oxygen in the bubbles, and dust embedded in the core -- all of which give them an idea of relative temperatures many thousands of years ago, when the ice was formed. In this data story, you will describe and interpret patterns in a graph of long-term temperature change based on data from an Antarctic ice core. Click Next to get started!
