We Caught Light Speeding
Data Story
Interpret a dot plot that shows the speed of light travelling through different materials, and see what surprises you.
Welcome to this Tuva data story! Light is amazing! Light allows you to visually perceive the world around you. It provides energy for plants to make their own food. Light sometimes feels warm. It also travels great distances and is the fastest-moving thing we know. As light travels from the Sun to your kitchen floor, it passes through the vacuum of space, and then several different materials -- through the air in Earth’s atmosphere, through clouds (water vapor), and through the glass in your kitchen window. In this data story, you will investigate the following question: *How fast does light travel along the way from the Sun to the floor at your feet?* Click Next to get started!
