Periodic Table Patterns: Specific Gravity
Data Story
Identify and interpret patterns in specific gravity of elements in the Periodic Table.
Welcome to this Tuva data story! What patterns in the specific gravity of different elements show up in the Periodic Table? As a reminder, specific gravity is the relative density of a substance compared to the density of some other substance used as a standard. Water at its densest point at 4 °C is used as the density standard for liquids and solids. Air at room temperature (20 °C) and at sea level pressure is the density standard for gases. In other words, specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a given substance to the density of the “standard." Click Next to get started!
