Mercury for Lunch?
Data Story
Interpret box plots that compare concentrations of mercury in different kinds of canned tuna fish from the grocery store.
Welcome to this Tuva data story! Tuna are among the largest bony fish in the ocean, typically growing to 100-200 kg, and 1-2 m long. Some can be much larger! Tuna can live for 1-2 decades or longer. Such large fish are at the top of the marine food chain, which means they consume lots of small fish and can accumulate toxins that find their way into oceans. Mercury is one toxin that accumulates in the ocean food chain. The question of how much mercury is found in tuna is important because several species of tuna are sold in supermarkets as canned tuna fish. In this data story, you will interpret box plots that compare concentrations of mercury in different kinds of canned tuna fish. Click Next to get started!
