How Much Warmer Is It?
Data Story
Students develop a headline about where warming is occurring in the US based on a map of changing temperatures in the continental U.S.
Welcome to this Tuva data story! The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) oversees the collection, analysis, and interpretation of massive amounts of weather and climate data. This map summarizes some of NOAA's data to show how much different average temperatures in areas of continental U.S. are from the twentieth century average. "Departure" refers to how much the temperature "departs" (or is different from) the long-term average temperature. What story does the map tell about where warming is occurring in the US?
